Step by Step - How to install your eSIM on iOS šŸ

Steve Jobs might have a few things to say about this process.

Once you've ordered your plan, eSIM Copilot makes installation super simple — whether you’re using Teams, Slack, WhatsApp, or just email.

Here’s your full guide to getting set up on iPhone or iPad.

šŸ“„ Getting your eSIM delivered

After ordering, your eSIM will be delivered via:

  • šŸ’¬Ā Teams or SlackĀ (when your plan starts)
  • šŸ“§Ā Email
  • šŸ“±Ā WhatsAppĀ (if you have this enabled)

If you're usingĀ Microsoft Teams, go to theĀ My eSIMsĀ tab in the eSIM Copilot Teams chat to view your active plans any time.

āš ļø In Teams, we’ll only send the ā€œyour eSIM is readyā€ message when the plan is active — not before.

šŸš€ Install Option 1: One-click install on iOS or use the QR code

InĀ Teams,Ā Slack or Whatsapp, simply clickĀ ā€œInstall on Appleā€Ā and follow the prompts on your iPhone. This will trigger the native eSIM installation flow instantly — no QR code scanning needed.

If you're not on Teams, Slack or Whatsapp, don’t worry! You can:

  • Scan the QR code from yourĀ emailĀ using the Camera app
  • Or enter the eSIM details manually in Settings

šŸ› ļø Install Option 2: Manual setup (if needed)

To install manually:

  1. OpenĀ Settings → Mobile Data → Add eSIM
  1. TapĀ Use QR CodeĀ and scan the one we sent (or tapĀ Enter Details ManuallyĀ if needed)
  1. Follow the prompts to add the plan

šŸ¤– iOS eSIM Setup Helper (a.k.a. the Buddy Helper)

This bit is a bit confusing, but you only have to do it once.

When you install your eSIM on iOS, Apple will walk you through a few setup screens — this is the built-inĀ iOS eSIM Buddy Helper.

it’s designed give the option to setup how your new eSIM works vs your existing domestic SIM.

To make sure everything works smoothly (especially if you're keeping your usual SIM for calls and texts), here’s what to select:

šŸ“¶ Mobile Data

When askedĀ which line to use for mobile data, choose the eSIM Copilot eSIM if you want to use your eSIM Copilot data plan straight away.

Otherwise, choose your existing domestic SIM to keep using data on your domestic line, until you need eSIM Copilot.

šŸ“ž Default Line

When asked which line to use by default for calls and messages, choose yourĀ existing domestic SIM.

This keeps your usual number active for friends, family, work, etc.

šŸ’¬ iMessage & FaceTime

Stick with your existing domestic SIM.

šŸ·ļø Label Your Lines

You’ll be prompted to name each SIM — we recommend calling your eSIM Copilot lineĀ ā€œeSIM Copilotā€Ā to keep things tidy

That’s it! Once these are set, your iPhone will know which SIM to use for what — and you’ll get the best of both worlds without confusion.

šŸŒ Enable Data Roaming

Once installed, you’ll want to enable data roaming so the eSIM can use data:

  1. Go toĀ Settings → Mobile Data
  1. Select yourĀ eSIM CopilotĀ plan
  1. ToggleĀ Data RoamingĀ toĀ ON

šŸ“” Adjust the preferred data line (when needed)

If you want to use eSIM Copilot for mobile data straight away or at anytime in the future, you need to tell your iPhone which SIM/eSIM to use for data:

  1. Go toĀ Settings → Mobile Data → Mobile Data
  1. ChooseĀ eSIM CopilotĀ (or whatever you called your eSIM) as the preferred line for data
  1. You can keep your other SIM active for calls/texts if needed

šŸ§‘ā€šŸ¤ā€šŸ§‘ Need help?

YourĀ eSIM Copilot botĀ is available right inside Teams, Slack or Whatsapp to guide you step-by-step — or you can always emailĀ help@esimcopilot.comĀ if you prefer a human.

Once it’s installed, you’re good to go — no plastic, no faff, just seamless mobile connectivity.
